Arizona Republic’s ‘Democracy in Doubt’ protection wins leading journalism honor

The Arizona Republic’s yearlong coverage of troubles to 2020 election final results was identified Sunday with a person of journalism’s top honors.

The information organization’s workers received the Scripps Howard Award for distinguished company to the Very first Amendment.

Republic journalists coated election night time protests, partisan lawsuits, infighting among condition and county Republican elected officers and a discredited recount of Maricopa County ballots. The information group also fought for public access to the recount and went to courtroom to demand public information about who was associated and who was shelling out for the recount.

The protection was capped by the five-part series “Democracy in Question,” led by reporters Yvonne Wingett Sanchez, Ronald J. Hansen and Jen Fifield.
