The new Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (SDLC) is looking at a bright year ahead, although at least one rural school division has some outstanding questions about the long-term future.

The new Crown corporation, added to the Ministry of Education’s portfolio, took over as the provincial facilitator of online courses for Saskatchewan students as of September.

University begins for Saskatchewan students Tuesday, but not all of them will be returning to classrooms. Some are enrolled in Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (SDLC), a new centralized system for on the internet learning.

“We are operating in 10 different centres all around the province, basically from just about every corner,” Darren Gasper, the CEO for SDLC, mentioned Friday.

The Crown corporation is a centralized general public process presenting cost-free lessons to pupils no issue exactly where they live in the province. A journalist has been arrested a working day after he had questioned Uttar Pradesh training minister Gulab Devi about her unfulfilled election claims through a govt party in her constituency.

“While beating me (at the police station), the policemen said they would instruct me a lesson for questioning the minister,” Sanjay Rana, 22, a reporter with a Moradabad-centered Hindi newspaper, explained to The Telegraph on Tuesday. Arrested on Sunday, he had attained bail on Monday.
